About
ABOUT THE SITE
brentgarland.com is both the online home of Brent Garland and a colossal waste of your time. Seriously. There are so many better things you could be doing, like stamp collecting or learning to play the ukulele. But, if you feel like hanging around, here’s the basics.
The site is intended as a home for new (and older) writing, essays in development, rants, raves, bold ideas, old ideas, and crazy ideas.
In the regular posts, you’ll find new writing, essays in development, rants, raves, bold ideas, old ideas, and crazy ideas (all arranged and archived chronologically, natch.). In the Nerdery, you’ll find older writing, writing for other venues, a link to my older anonyblog, and other assorted items as may fit.
I’m glad you’re here. Take some time to look around. As always, feel free to email me items of interest, ideas, or just to argue and disagree.
ABOUT BRENT

Brent was raised in the epic American South. He is a writer, lawyer, policy professional, and unrepentant malcontent. He spends a ridiculous amount of time thinking about the interplay of science, technology, culture, public policy and law.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and a law degree. Brent has held various professional and academic positions, including a position on the faculty of the University of Virginia and a senior staff position at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His policy and scholarly work has focused on ethical, legal, and social dimensions of the criminal justice system, the mental health system, and numerous scientific disciplines, most recently neuroscience.
This site is a labor of love (read: a hole into which time and money are being sunk) and is powered by WordPress, a Leica Digilux 1, gmail, and popcorn.
So, look around. Take your time. Download a paper or two, then e-mail him to argue about why every one of his conclusions was wrong. Brent loves to argue.
